LEGENDARY Motown singer Henry Fambrough has died at the age of 85.
Fambrough was the last surviving original member of the hit group The Spinners.
His spokesperson revealed he died on Wednesday at his home in northern Virginia.
Fambrough, from Detroit, died peacefully from natural causes.
He had gone into hospice care in January, per The Detroit Free Press.
His death comes just months after The Spinners was inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame.
Fambrough had retired from the group early last year.
The Spinners, founded in 1954, were known for the hit tracks It’s A Shame, Could It Be I’m Falling in Love, and The Rubberband Man.
Fambrough starred alongside Dionne Warwick on the 1975 track Just As Long As We Have Love.
The group’s other original members C.P. Spencer died in 2004, Billy Henderson died in 2007, Pervis Jackson died in 2008, and Bobby Smith passed in 2013.
Tributes have poured in following Fambrough’s death.
Mourners hailed Fambrough for his smooth and versatile tenor voice.
Jessie Peck, who joined The Spinners in 2008, said Fambrough was consistent.
“He set the standard for the rest of us about how the Spinners should be: always on point, with every step,” Peck said.
“He had a desire above all else to keep this going no matter what. That’s what he bestowed on us.”
The singer is survived by Norma, his wife of 52 years, and his daughter Heather Williams.
