Roy Keane thinks Marcus Rashford played his foul ‘well’ that resulted in Casemiro opening the scoring during Manchester United’s 2-0 EFL Cup final win over Newcastle United at Wembley on Sunday, as he told Sky Sports Main Event (26/02/23).
The Manchester United legend added that the argument could be made about the awarding of the foul, with Bruno Guimaraes penalised for pushing Rashford, which then saw Luke Shaw whip in a stunning free-kick that was headed home by Casemiro.
It was an opening blow for Eddie Howe’s side, but six minutes later, it made matters worse because Sven Botman proceeded to score an own goal, once again Rashford was at the heart of it and the Magpies went into the break dejected.

Newcastle went in their thousands to England’s capital, regardless of if they had a ticket, but they will feel down in the dumps after failing to score or have a serious effect in their first major final since the turn of the century.
With new ownership through the doors and Eddie Howe working wonders, many of the Toon Army faithful will be hoping that their 50+ year wait for a trophy will, one day, come to an end.

But that early foul and goal by Casemiro was crucial for Manchester United, with Roy Keane sharing his thoughts.
“Manchester United were very, very efficient in their play,” said Keane. “We know the importance of set pieces.
“Okay, we will argue, I think Marcus (Rashford) plays it well. But once they win the free-kick and the delivery from Shaw. I think it’s a great ball in. It’s a great ball, then Casemiro, who has been brilliant.”
