Alan Shearer says Arsenal’s two centre-backs, William Saliba and Gabriel, would prefer to have Thomas Partey in front of them because he makes their job ‘easier’ and makes them look better.
The 29-year-old was described as ‘invaluable’ by Shearer, who added that Partey senses danger ‘before anyone else sees it’.
That’s why there was so much worry about Partey possibly getting injured and this clamour to bring in a bonafide number six during the January transfer window.

In the end, it was Jorginho, who is more of a possession-based midfielder, that arrived during the January transfer window.
And whilst his debut started with a defeat to Everton, followed by more dropped points against Brentford and then Manchester City, he is now starting to cook.
But as Shearer mentioned, the main man is still Partey, as he told Premier League Productions (25/02/23 at 2:25 pm).
“That work Partey does in there is invaluable,” said Shearer. “If you speak to the two Arsenal centre-halves and say ‘how comfortable are you with or without Partey in there?’

“There is no doubt they much prefer to have him in there because he makes them look better players. I am not saying their job is easy, but he makes their job easier, in terms of the way he sits in there, his experience, his know-how in that position and helping out and sniffing out trouble.
“He actually sniffs it out before anybody else sees it, that’s what is so good about him.”

PARTEY AND JESUS RETURN
Arsenal have seemingly gone through their blip – a three-game meltdown that saw fans and pundit alike question their Premier League title credentials.
But they are back on the charge now, winning back-to-back matches, and by the end of the week, it can be four in four, that’s if they beat relegation-threatened Everton and Bournemouth.
If that happens, then at a minimum, their lead at the top will be five points and then what a way that will be to welcome back Partey and Gabriel Jesus from their current injuries.
