Tim Sherwood has slammed the treatment of Liverpool transfer target Mason Mount after he was an unused substitute during Chelsea’s 2-0 defeat to Aston Villa on Saturday.
Chelsea conceded a goal on either side of the half against Unai Emery’s side and they needed someone to come in to provide them with that composure in the final third.
But Graham Potter, who has now been sacked by Chelsea, opted to leave Mason Mount on the bench.

Whilst the former Brighton boss was dealt a bad hand in regards to the number of players he had to work with, at the end of the day, some of his decision-making needed to be questioned.
It’s one of the big reasons why Chelsea are sitting 11th and Potter is now out of the door, with Sherwood critical of how Mount was treated, as he told Premier League Productions (01/04/23 at 7:25 pm).
“There is Mason Mount there,” said Sherwood. “If you ever need a goal, you have Mason Mount sitting on the bench.
“He (Potter) didn’t even use him. I couldn’t believe the team selection really. Reece James playing on the right of three centre-backs when you know he’s a wing-back.”

MOUNT TO START V LIVERPOOL?
There have been suggestions that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are keen on the England international, with Mount yet to sign a new deal at Stamford Bridge, The Athletic claimed on March 30 that they are ‘serious’ about signing the player.
Well, he might just start against the Reds when they visit managerless Chelsea on Tuesday night, with the London club looking for a boost and those on Merseyside looking to recover after another humbling on the road.
How will the players react now Potter is out of the door? And surely a fan favourite like Mount is going to be brought back into the starting XI just to change things up a little?
Either way, it’s the unexpected scenario of a team sitting eighth taking on another struggling team in 11th.
