‘He could go to Newcastle’: Shay Given says Liverpool ace would ‘do really well’ under Howe

Speaking on the BBC Radio Five Live Football Daily Podcast, Shay Given has been discussing Roberto Firmino after it was reported that the Brazilian will be leaving Liverpool at the end of the season.

Firmino is set to become a free agent in the summer, and Given was pondering where the striker will end up come the end of the season.

The Irishman questioned whether or not he would want to play for another Premier League club given his affinity for Liverpool, stating that if he did want to stay in England, a move to Newcastle could suit him to a tee.

Given tips Firmino for Newcastle

Given spoke about Firmino’s future.

“Does he want to play for another Premier League club, that is probably the question, or does he go to Germany or Italy or somewhere else? I’m trying to think of people who have played against their former clubs, John Terry for example at Aston Villa against Chelsea, you lose it a little bit perhaps. He could go to Newcastle for example for a couple of seasons and do really well, he’s still a top player,” Given said.

Where will he go?

It will be interesting to see what Firmino does next in his career.

He would be brilliant for a club like Newcastle, but at the age of 31, does he want to join a team that promises more of a long-term project?

In our view, Firmino would be better off joining a team that can win trophies in the very near future. He’s certainly good enough to attract offers from the likes of PSG, Bayern Munich or one of the top Italian sides, and perhaps that’s where he’d be best off ending up.

It will certainly be intriguing to see Firmino’s next steps.
