Southampton FC v Wolverhampton Wanderers - Premier League

Owen Hargreaves has labelled Tottenham Hotspur and Leeds United transfer target Adama Traore as a ‘unique’ player.

The Wolves forward had a rare moment over the weekend because he scored his side’s winning goal against Tottenham when his guided effort found the back of the net late in the second half.

That was only the 27-year-old’s tenth Premier League goal in 183 matches, a tally that clearly doesn’t match the ‘power’ which he showcases out on the pitch.

This just might be Traore’s final season at Wolves because his contract will run out in the summer, with the likes of Leeds and Spurs keen on the player.

Leeds have to stay in the Premier League to have a chance in adding him to their ranks, whilst not even Daniel Levy probably knows the road Spurs are heading down because there is talk that Antonio Conte could leave in the summer.

Nonetheless, former England international Hargreaves was full of praise for Traore for his recent showing, as he told MatchDay Extra on Premier League Productions (04/03/23 at 8:45 pm).

“End product isn’t probably his greatest attribute,” said Hargreaves. “I think Adama Traore is such a unique player. He’s so explosive and powerful.

“I actually like this finish. He doesn’t try to smash it. It’s like a guided volley. It is actually a peculiar finish, but I think he realises that, because he’s in the air, he can’t smack it or so he guides it into the top corner. It shows that you don’t need power.”

TRAORE IS NOT WORTH SIGNING

Many managers have tried, but many still aren’t able to get the consistent best out of the Spain international.

There is no doubt he is all-action, but it seems as though it’s all smoke and no fire.

That end product has lacked since the day that fresh-faced teenager arrived as an Aston Villa player, and many years later, he is still lacking that edge and quality in the final third.

His style of play will always be easy on the eye, but is he worth pushing for if you want to progress the club to the next level?
