Charlie Adam has been quoted by BBC Live as criticising Liverpool man Darwin Nunez for his tame shot at Thibaut Courtois’ goal in the first half – as the Reds went on to lose 1-0 at the Santiago Bernabeu on Wednesday night.
The Reds came into the game having lost the first leg 5-2 at Anfield. The likes of Nunez, Cody Gakpo, Mo Salah and Diogo Jota were tasked with scoring the goals to take Liverpool into extra-time, needing to win by three goals.
However, the Reds were nullified well by Carlo Ancelotti’s side. Half-chances at best. Ultimately, the only goal of the game was scored by Karim Benzema in the second half – as Vinicius Jr squared to him on the deck. A 1-0 win.
But if Liverpool had a bit more luck, and were a bit more clinical in the final third – they could have got themselves a goal. Nunez had a chance in the first half but chose to shoot at the keeper’s near side, rather than going across.

Ex-Reds midfielder Adam said on Nunez’s chance, as per BBC Live’s coverage of the game: “Darwin Nunez has got to do better with the chance he has. If he goes back across the goalkeeper he has a better chance of scoring.”

It was a tricky chance and it would have required a very good finish to have found the net, and to have beaten a goalkeeper like ex-Chelsea stopper Courtois. Liverpool did well in parts, but they are still far from their firing best.
At least, for the Reds, they can now focus on the Premier League and attempt to haul in the likes of Tottenham and Manchester United in the race for the top four. If they are to find any success this term, they have to get top four.
