Daniel Sturridge has compared this current Arsenal side to the Liverpool team during the 2013/2014 Premier League season, where they were pipped to the league title by Manchester City.
While the Reds were cruising, Steven Gerrard’s unforgettable slip in their defeat to Chelsea and their capitulation against Crystal Palace in a 3-3 draw soon after meant the Sky Blues became champions.
Daniel Sturridge, who was part of a frightening front two with Luis Suarez that season has likened this Arsenal team to that Liverpool side that failed to get over the line up against Manchester City.
Daniel Sturridge compares Arsenal to 2013/2014 Liverpool in title race with Manchester City
Speaking on Sky Sports, Daniel Sturridge explained why he thinks Arsenal remind him of the Liverpool side during the 2013/2014 season that lost the league title to a more seasoned Manchester City side.
“I would say that if I analyse Arsenal now and I look at the Liverpool side of ‘13/14 when we were absolutely flying and Man City pipped us at the post obviously, I would say that I liken them to us at that stage.”

“And I’m looking at them and thinking, ‘okay, do they have that extra bit when it comes to the last 3 or 4 games of the season to show that experience?’
“They have a young squad, they’ve got a great, talented group of players, world-class. [Bukayo] Saka, absolutely love him and they’ve got a great manager too. The key is, when I compare those 2 seasons, it’s going to be those last 3, 4 games when it’s like, ‘okay, it’s getting a little bit touchy now and we’re getting scared, and we’re not breaking teams down in the 85th minute or whatever.’
“Can they show that belief and that confidence? And I believe they can too, by the way. I’m not saying disbelieve in Arsenal because they can’t win the Premier League, I really think they can.”
Only time will tell whether Arsenal prove Daniel Sturridge right when it comes to his comparison with Liverpool in that season, or whether they carry on and beat Manchester City to the Premier League title.
