Tim Sherwood has told Chelsea to appoint Tottenham manager target Roberto De Zerbi as their next manager after his Brighton side picked up a 2-1 win at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.

Free-scoring Brighton put on a masterclass at the Bridge, with Sherwood claiming that Roberto De Zerbi is the ‘real deal’ – that’s probably why Spurs are looking at possibly appointing him as their next manager.

The plaudits have been coming the Italian’s way ever since he stepped foot into English football in September, including from, none other than, Pep Guardiola – he thinks Brighton are the best team in the world at playing out from the back.

The Seagulls, who are chasing Champions League football this season, have been used to losing key players, and in previous times, their manager to bigger clubs.

Could the same happen with De Zerbi? Well, whilst Sherwood thinks Chelsea need to grab him after his appearance at Stamford Bridge today, he feels Graham Potter’s recent spell might have been off-putting for them, as he told Premier League Productions (15/04/23 at 3:55 pm).

“That man in your picture there, I don’t know what Chelsea are waiting for,” said Sherwood. “They need a manager, just go and get him.

“I don’t want to sell Brighton’s manager again. The only reason why Chelsea might not go for him is that Graham Potter has let them down.

“But this guy is the real deal. He is the real deal manager. They got £21 million for the other manager and he wasn’t any good.”

DE ZERBI SHOULD STAY PUT

There will be plenty of knocks on the door in the summer for De Zerbi, but he should ignore such calls and stay where he is.

Chelsea are a mess and Tottenham are sliding by the week. Stay at Brighton, who might have European football to contend with for next season.

And, even if they don’t achieve that, then there is every chance they can reach it when he gets a full season under his belt for the 2023/24 campaign.
