Matty Cash has told Aston Villa fans on Instagram that the calf injury he picked up whilst on international duty with Poland is ‘worse than first expected’.
After only three minutes, Poland were 2-0 down to Czechia in their opening Euro 2024 qualifier, before Matty Cash had to leave the field of play – Why is the Slough-born defender representing Poland?
The 25-year-old returned to Villa and now it seems as though he is facing a spell on the sidelines, although it doesn’t seem as though he will be ruled out for the rest of the campaign, with 11 Premier League games of the season left.
When Unai Emery first walked through the doors of Bodymoor Heath, Matty Cash, despite being the only bonafide right-back at the club, wasn’t a regular starter, with Ashley Young preferred.
But, in recent weeks, he has returned to the starting XI, and it could be argued, that he has produced his best games of the campaign.
After winning the Supporters Player of the Year during the 2021/22 campaign, this current season is ending in a ‘frustrating’ manner for the former Nottingham Forest star, as he pointed out on his IG.
“So, so frustrating to have picked up a little injury,” said Cash. “Worse than first expected. But, hopefully, won’t be too long as I’ll be doing everything to get back out there.”

ASHLEY YOUNG TO COME IN?
It seems the most logical answer, although, with the return of Diego Carlos, someone like Ezri Konsa and Calum Chambers could fill that role as a right-sided fullback.
Although, given the improvement of Villa’s backline in recent weeks, there would be no reason for that, especially given how well Young has played this term.
If it wasn’t for Douglas Luiz’s recent form, the argument could be made that the 37-year-old is Villa’s Player of the Season.
