'From what I've heard': Reporter claims EFL club doubt Leeds will sign 'unbelievable' striker

Coventry City have some real reservations over goal machine Viktor Gyokeres joining Leeds United at the end of the season.

That’s according to transfer insider Dean Jones, who has been speaking to Give Me Sport about Gyokeres and a possible summer exit.

Jones claims that he has heard Coventry have ‘some reservations’ about Gyokeres heading to Elland Road amid strong rumours about a deal.

It’s unclear just why Coventry would feel that way but there seems to be some doubt over a potential summer move to Leeds.

“Let’s see what league they end up in because things might change, but yeah, from what I’ve heard, they do have some reservations about him being likely to join Leeds right now,” said Jones.

This comes after TEAMtalk reported last week that Leeds are planning to sign Gyokeres no matter what division they end up in.

It now seems that Coventry are sceptical of that prospect and can’t exactly see Gyokeres ending up at Elland Road this summer.

Viktor Gyokeres to Leeds United in doubt

Leeds have been keeping close tabs on Gyokeres for a little while now.

The Athletic reported in January that the former Brighton striker was viewed as an alternative to Georginio Rutter.

Leeds did end up signing Rutter and that may be why a move for Gyokeres seems a little difficult to imagine.

Rutter joins Patrick Bamford and Rodrigo in the Leeds striking pecking order, and you would imagine all three would stay if Leeds avoid relegation.

It’s therefore a little hard to believe that Leeds – just months after breaking their transfer record on Rutter – will go and splash out on Gyokeres too.

Maybe that’s why Coventry just don’t think a deal will be happening this summer, or maybe they specifically don’t fancy selling to Leeds for some reason.

Either way, we can’t see Leeds signing the striker hailed as ‘unbelievable’ by boss Mark Robins come the end of the season.
