If former West Ham United youngster Dan Kemp was a movie star, he’d be the one who stops the bomb going off with one second remaining. If he was going about his business in the NBA rather than the EFL, he’d be what they call a ‘clutch player’.
The man who steps up to the plate with decisive, save-the-day contributions just when all hope appears lost.
The midfielder has scored nine goals in just 13 League Two games since joining Hartlepool on loan from MK Dons in the January transfer window. Without him, it’s probably no stretch to suggest John Askey’s side would already be preparing for life back in non-league, albeit without a pair of tanned, toothy Hollywood owners to hang their hopes upon.

Should Hartlepool survive the drop, this would be a script Ryan Reynolds himself may be tempted to consider. The Great Escape; Part Two, with Kemp in the leading role.
Former West Ham United starlet Dan Kemp in outstanding form
Kemp’s first Hartlepool goal was a free-kick to spark a turnaround against Sutton United back in February. Then came two away at AFC Wimbledon, including a 96th minute penalty. Another brace vs Wallsall followed, including another stoppage time strike.
24-year-old Kemp certainly put the ‘good’ in Good Friday over the Easter Weekend too; a first ever career hat-trick seeing off Grimsby Town and helping Hartlepool roll away the stone. Things may have looked bleak at times but the North East outfit are not yet nailed to the cross. Their hopes of avoiding relegation still very much alive.

“(Kemp’s) goals were brilliant,” Askey beamed following arguably Hartlepool’s finest performance of the entire campaign, via News Chain Online.
“When he gets in the box with the space, he is a really good finisher. And to have him the team with that quality is brilliant.
“I had a go at him last Saturday because he was coming deep for the ball. (That) was not where we wanted him. The higher up the pitch we can get him, the more goals he is going to score. The more problems he is going to cause the opposition.
“He did that today.”
The former England U20 international was a regular source of goals and assists for West Ham’s youth teams before making the short trip to Leyton Orient back in 2021. He may not have made the grade at the London Stadium but, some 260 miles north, Kemp is bringing a little slice of Hollywood to Hartlepool.
