Don Hutchison says the ‘absolutely sensational’ Arsenal midfielder Martin Odegaard is the Premier League’s Player of the Year over Erling Haaland and Bukayo Saka.
The former Liverpool player added that ‘we all talk about Kevin de Bruyne being one of the best’, but he now feels Martin Odegaard is the ‘best midfielder’ in the Premier League today.
That’s a pretty huge claim from Hutchison, not just picking Odegaard as POTY ahead of Manchester City’s goal-crazy striker, who has scored a stunning 28 goals from 26 league matches this term.

But putting the 24-year-old above Kevin de Bruyne in terms of midfielders, at this moment in time, who is once again leading the assists charts with 13 from his 25 league games.
On the other hand, Odegaard, whose Arsenal side are sitting top of the Premier League table, has been cooking up his own magic because he has ten goals and seven assists to his name – Paul Merson recently stated that Odegaard is ‘so good all the time’ for the Gunners.
All of these players will be seriously important during this final run-in for the Premier League title, as Hutchison explained why he has Odegaard as his POTY, as he told ESPN.
“Well, because he has been absolutely sensational,” said Hutchison. “I nearly went with my heart. I nearly went with Zinchenko for what he is going through and the performances he is putting in.
“But I remembered all the games I have commented on this season. I have done their last five games and the kid has been sensational. He has been out of this world.

“We all talk about Kevin de Bruyne being one of the best and rightly so. I think this guy, the way he has played this season, is definitely the best midfield player in the Premier League. I think he has been outstanding.
“Haaland has got his goals, granted. I like watching Odegaard because I like the way he plays. I like the way he has balance. I like the way he manipulates the ball. He takes it in tight areas. He has got an assist in him. An eye for a pass. Very easy on the eye. He’s silky. I think he is amazing. I would (have him over Saka).”

ODEGAARD LEADING BY EXAMPLE
The Arsenal captaincy has been a poisoned chalice over the years, with the last two occupants – Granit Xhaka and Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang – stripped of the roles.
Whilst Xhaka has redeemed himself, the same couldn’t be said for Aubameyang, who was booted out by Mikel Arteta – now at Chelsea, he has been called a ‘disgrace’ for his latest actions which could see him axed, yet again.
Nonetheless, the Arsenal boss handed those keys to Odegaard in the summer and he is now charging forward and leading by example.
