Emmanuel Petit and Michael Owen think Aaron Ramsdale got ‘very lucky’ during Arsenal’s 4-1 win over Crystal Palace on Sunday at the Emirates Stadium.
The duo were making reference to Wilfried Zaha’s shot, at 0-0, hitting Ramsdale’s back and then the back of his head, before slapping the post and going out for a corner.
In typical Zaha fashion, the all-action forward, after bursting run down the left flank, proceeded to cut onto his favoured right foot.

After seeing a gap open up, he drilled a low shot at Ramsdale’s near post and the £30 million Arsenal man (Sky Sports) was quick enough to get down and get a slight touch on the ball.
That was enough to see the ball end up going out for a corner, but the puff of the cheeks from Ramsdale, huge intake of breath and gasp from the crowd, told you a different story.
Both Emmanuel Petit and Michael Owen reacted to that moment, and whilst they praised the 24-year-old for his save, they do think he had a ‘luck of a winner’, as they told Premier League Productions (19/03/23 at 3:00 pm).
“Palace had a great opportunity to score the first goal,” said Petit. “He was so lucky Ramsdale. That should have gone back into his own goal.
“After a sloppy start, Arsenal took control of the ball – but Ramsdale touched it with his finger, doesn’t he?!”

Owen added: “He gets lucky, doesn’t he?! Where it bounces off, as Emmanuel said. He’s not lucky, in the first instance. That ball is sneaking in. It’s only on the replay that you see he gets a tiny little touch.”
Petit added: “It’s the luck of a winner.”

ARSENAL EASED PAST PALACE
The early part of the game saw managerless Palace provide a threat to Arsenal’s backline, but as soon as Gabriel Martinelli opened the scoring after 28 minutes, it was game over.
Palace went into the game having sacked Patrick Vieira and having not scored in four matches, as well as zero wins in 11 and nothing to shout about in 2023.
It’s beyond dreadful form, so whilst they scored, they showcased throughout the 90 minutes, why they are in serious danger of going down.
But Arsenal had to get the job done and they did in style to open up an eight-point lead on Manchester City.
