Everybody is getting involved with the pranks today as April Fool’s Day 2023 has arrived. Plenty of companies have already released their faux products or schemes, but even treasured landmarks are taking part too. That’s right, France’s favourite attraction has just posted its contribution – the Eiffel Tower slide.
Today of all days you shouldn’t believe what you see. Take everything with a pinch of salt and avoid being made the fool. However, that doesn’t mean that some of the fake announcements would be truly amazing if it did happen. Well, that’s what many believe after the Eiffel Tower Twitter took part in April Fool’s Day.
Eiffel Tower slide announced for Summer 2023
Of course, it’s just a prank, as with anything else announced today. But this would be super cool if somehow those in charge of the landmark could make it work.
Taking to the Eiffel Tower Twitter earlier today, the social media team released a pretty convincing video showing a helter-skelter slide around the famous attraction.
Supposedly opening for Summer 2023, the post joked that it would be the tallest slide in the world. The video shows it in its entirety starting from the peak and going around and in and out of the structure in the colour of the French flag.
As a concept video goes, we’ve definitely seen ones that were less believable. Those who know the landmark’s layout picked out that it was fake immediately, but those less familiar definitely could have been pranked with the Eiffel Tower slide for a moment or two.

The Eiffel Tower April Fool’s joke went down a treat
Immediately, the post gained a lot of attraction, with comes flooding in about the Eiffel Tower slide.
Some believed it for longer than others and definitely got their hopes up about the announcement.
“I believed it for a whole 10 seconds!” one shared, with crying emojis showing their distress at the prank.
“Honestly, that would be so great!” Commented another, disappointed that it wasn’t actually happening.
The sentiment was shared by lots, with one bringing back this classic meme to convince them to make the Eiffel Tower slide a reality.
Why is it called the E-Fish Tower?
Some have noticed that the sign in the promotional video says ‘E-Fish Tower’, which has confused some who aren’t French natives.
In French culture, fish are closely linked with April Fool’s Day. Traditionally, people would stick paper fish to people’s backs as a prank, one of the earliest celebrations of the day. This was done because fish were ‘easily caught’ like the people who the joke had been played on.
Since then, the phrase ‘Poisson d’Avril’ is commonly used in France, meaning April Fish, to refer to the day itself or those who have been victims of a prank.
Fish became closely linked to the day because April 1 was often the last day of lent. Traditionally, Christians weren’t meant to eat meat during this time, but the Church permitted the consumption of fish. So, April Fool’s Day and fish became joined at the hip and haven’t parted ways since!
The Eiffel Tower slide certainly isn’t the only joke played today by bigger companies. McDonald’s UK announced the chicken nugget boot on Twitter as well, and they’ll be plenty more to come yet.
Whether you’ll be pulling pranks today, or just sharing April Fool’s Day 2023 memes for the day, make sure to check your own back — especially for fish!
