What Drake said about retirement in

In chapter 2 of his interview with Lil Yachty called Graceful Exit, Drake discusses his possible retirement from music and it isn’t sitting well with his fans.

The rapper has previously mentioned his thoughts on retiring, but he never established the rest of the timeline of his career. But, the interview video has created a sense of fear among fans who are under the impression that Drake is getting ready to bid farewell to music soon.

Last year, the Canadian spoke about “stopping making music” for his fans at the Apollo Theater in Harlem. Before you reach an unspectacular conclusion from assumptions and rumors, here’s what the rapper actually said about his retirement plans.

What Drake said about retirement

The clip shared by Lil Yachty features a few seconds with Drake where he’s seen talking about “what’s left” for him. The rest of the interview dropped Friday, Friday 24.

However, in the complete interview, the rapper explains his thoughts on competition within the industry and how it can get so addictive that “their souls were fed off from being a guy or the guy.”

Drake says he has seen fellow artists feed of fame for years and try to remain on the top of the game, but he wouldn’t force himself to do the same when the “time comes”.

He wants to rather watch the next generation of musicians do their thing, even if it means not actively making any more music.

He didn’t say he’s retiring anytime soon

What many have missed noticing is Drake’s clarification on not being “ready now”, which means he isn’t retiring anytime soon or in the near future.

He said “when the time is right”, he would want to be around when the new generation of musicians join the game and see what they have to offer.

“I guess what’s left for me is, I am not ready now, but to find a way to gracefully continue making projects that are extremely interesting and hopefully cherished by people and then find the right time to say ‘I can’t wait to see what the next generation does.

“I’ll still be around to work with people and do a show here and there. But I am not going to force myself to compete.”

Fans wrongly assume he’s quitting music now

Fans who haven’t watched the complete interview appear to have wrongly assumed that Drake is calling it a day.

Many, who only came across the teaser clip by Lil Yachty, are dreading that the Her Loss artist will stop making music almost immediately.

One tweeted: “What’s all this talk about Drake retiring? He’s not allowed to, man isn’t even 40 yet.”

“Canadian National Emergency: Drake is retiring,” wrote another.

A third tweet read: “What do you mean by Drake is retiring? He’s just getting started.”
