Due to this, some have been confused about the candy’s status in California.

Is Skittles getting banned in 2023?
No, Skittles is not getting banned in California or in the US in 2023.
The confusion arose when the news about the AB 418 lawsuit hit social media. However, the main idea behind the lawsuit is to ban the following five chemicals:
- Titanium dioxide, this is usually found in candies such as Skittles, M&M, and more.
- Red dye No. 3
- Potassium bromate
- Brominated vegetable oil
- Propylparaben
The idea behind the lawsuit is not to get any of the candies banned but to ask companies to choose a healthier substitute.

The European Commission banned Titanium Dioxide, which is often used as food addictive.
This was passed for a period of six months starting from February 7, 2022, until August 7, 2022, as it was considered to be a “phasing out period.” Following this, the country saw a permanent ban.
It states that Titanium Dioxide must be deleted as a food additive and its use must be reviewed. At the same time, it was also denied as a feed additive for all animal species.
