Brighton & Hove Albion CEO, Paul Barber, has spoken about how ‘things can change very quickly’ in football as he used David Moyes’ West Ham United as an example.
Sitting sixth In the Premier League table, Paul Barber was talking about Brighton’s possible push for Europe and how the club needs to be realistic.
He made reference to how the Seagulls what to ‘improve year on year’, but to also ‘keep our feet on the ground’ because, this time last season, West Ham were battling the top-six and now they are in a relegation fight.

What’s even worse for the Hammers and David Moyes is that they spent a lot of money during the summer transfer window, yet, the club has gone backwards.
There was already huge pressure on Moyes and it has only been dialled up following their 5-1 defeat to Newcastle United on Wednesday night – both Alan Shearer and Ian Wright slammed their comical defending.
Nonetheless, whilst Brighton have Europe in their sights, Paul Barber had mixed emotions on how to feel about it all, as he used West Ham as an example, as he told Premier League Productions.
“Improving year on year, is our first target,” said Barber. “When we first got to the Premier League, staying in the Premier League was our first target.
“Then it was trying to make sure we weren’t in a relegation scrap. Then it was about, can we get into the top half of the table? Now we are pushing, and Roberto (De Zerbi) is pushing us hard to say ‘we can compete for a European place. We can compete for a domestic trophy’.

“But then, we also know that there are four, five, six or seven clubs that are in that same bracket that feel they can as well. It’s highly competitive, but we have to keep pushing our ambition further and further out.
“We are also aware that things in football can change very quickly. This time last season, West Ham were competing in the top six of the Premier League. They are in a European semi-final, but this season, they are having a really tough time.
“David Moyes hasn’t become a bad manager. West Ham’s squad hasn’t become a bad squad, things can just change in football very quickly. We keep our feet on the ground and remain humble.”

BRIGHTON IN THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE
It would be some story and one of the stories of recent times if Brighton were to secure Champions League football for next season.
Getting into Europe alone is crazy enough, so to do the above would be mind-blowing, but deserving.
The South Coast club are a model example to all and how, they can lose their manager and many top players, yet, it makes them better and not worse.
