Will the popular DanMachi anime series return for season 5, or does season 4 episode 22 mark the last time we see Bell on our screens?
The 2023 Winter anime slate has been dominated by sequels including Tokyo Revengers, The Misfit of Demon King Academy, Vinland Saga, Nagatoro, and of course, DanMachi.
The latter series is finally set to reach its season 4 finale in just a few short hours time, following a highly successful two-cour broadcast across Summer 2022 and Winter 2023.
Whilst we are still waiting for official confirmation on DanMachi season 5, all of the signs are there that the anime series will return with at least one more installment of Dungeon-based adventures.
Will DanMachi return for season 5?
As previously noted, DanMachi season 5 has not yet been publicly confirmed yet by either J.C. Staff or Sentai Filmworks in Japan; however, there still remains a very good chance that the anime will return for another adventure.
Modern anime renewals typically come down to two factors; availability of source material and popularity of the wider franchise, two things that are currently working in the favor of DanMachi season 5.
Season 4 episode 22 is expected to adapt up until the ending of light novel volume 15, which was released domestically in Japan back in June 2019. The good news is that, as of March 2023, there are 18 complete volumes of the DanMachi light novel series that have been published in Japanese.
Based on the current pacing of the anime series, this means that there is enough source material available for another 12-episode season straight away. In fact, we could see DanMachi season 5 premiere as soon as January 2024 but if the decision was made to go with another 22-episode, two-part broadcast the return could be pushed into the Spring or Summer of next year.

DanMachi should also prove popular enough to merit the necessary resources required to produce and animate a fifth season.
Whilst the most recent installment appeared to fly under the radar for a majority of western viewers, likely due to it streaming on HiDive rather than Crunchyroll, season 4 part 2 is actually still the highest-rated part of the anime adaptation on MyAnimeList:
- Season 1 – 7.55/10
- Season 2 – 7.23/10
- Season 3 – 7.46/10
- Season 4 Part 1 – 7.69/10
- Season 4 Part 2 – 8.18/10
Couple this response with the increased manga sales with domestic audiences, and it remains highly likely that DanMachi will return for a fifth anime season.
