CSI: Miami actor David Caruso, 67, looks unrecognizable with long hair as he pumps gas in LA in rare sighting

DAVID Caruso has traded in his trademark sunglasses for a much more surprising look.

The CSI: Miami star was completely unrecognizable while pumping gas in Los Angeles.

David has rarely been seen in public since his CSI spinoff was canceled in 2012.

But he was spotted earlier this week near his Los Angeles home running errands – and sporting a drastically different appearance.

Gone were his trademark black sunglasses, sharp suits and slick orange hair.

Instead, the 67-year-old seemed rather disheveled.

David’s once glorious mane now messily falls down to his shoulders.

The flashy wardrobe was replaced by a blue hooded jacket that struggled to cover his protruding stomach.

He was spotted again later in the day looking a little more dapper, in a black shirt and denim jacket.

NYPD WHO?

David first rose to fame as Detective John Kelly in NYPD Blue, a role for which he was nominated for an Emmy.

But he would last barely more than a season, leaving the show amid a salary dispute.

He would later be replaced by Jimmy Smits, and the show would go on to find great success.

After several failed movies, David finally found success once more as another cop – Lieutenant Horatio Caine on CSI: Miami.

The role would lead to a generation of GIFs featuring the suave actor removing or putting on his trademark sunglasses while uttering a snarky one-liner about the crime-of-the-week procedural.

PERSONAL LOSS

Tragedy struck David just last month, when the young actor who played his character’s estranged son died suddenly at his home in San Bernardino, California.

Evan Ellingson, who appeared in numerous television shows and films including 24, CSI: Miami, and My Sister’s Keeper, was 35.

The exact circumstances of his death were initially unclear, but no foul play was believed to have been involved.

Evan’s father, Michael, did admit his son had been struggling with drugs in the past.

In 2009, Evan talked about working with David with The Star.

He described his co-star as “a really down-to-earth kind of guy.

“Without him there isn’t really much of anything. He understands that everyone thinks that his character is a little ‘too cool’ but that’s the whole intriguing part about the show that things fly above everybody’s head. He’s just into his role.

“Who else do you think about when you say David Caruso but Horatio Caine?”
