After Bud Light’s customized cans featuring transgender activist Dylan Mulvaney garnered negative reactions and those protesting it said they would switch to Coors Light, LGBTQ supporters are reminding people of the Pride cans launched by Molson Coors, which was only an extension of the company’s support for the marginalized community for years.
Budweiser‘s parent company, Anheuser-Busch, is being criticized for its latest campaign, which according to the brand was created to mark the anniversary of Dylan Mulvaney‘s TikTok video series documenting her transition.
Despite a clarification from Bud Light that the collaboration purely aimed to celebrate the transgender influencer‘s milestone, conservatives have called out the beer company for its wokeism, while having failed to realize that other brands such as Coors Light have been long-time supporters of the LGBTQ community.
Revisiting Coors Light Pride cans
For the uninitiated, Coors Light was sold in Pride cans in the past for a brief period through the company’s “Tap Into Change program”, to show support to the LGBTQ+ community.
The screenshot of a post shared by Coors Light on Facebook back in the day shows the customized cans featuring a logo filled with rainbow colors.
The temporary design was reportedly made available in select bars across Los Angeles, New York, San Francisco, Dallas, and Columbus. A part of the profit from its sale was donated to local LGBTQ charities.
When conservatives threatened to boycott Bud Light for going against supposed traditional American values and switching to Coors Light instead, they were quickly reminded of the latter’s initiatives supporting inclusivity.
Beer brand has been a supporter of LGBTQ+ for years
Molson Coors boasts a distinguished history of supporting LGBTQ+ communities across the country for more than two decades, but many seem to be unaware of it.

It is known for supporting organizations such as Human Rights Campaign (HRC), the Matthew Shepard Foundation, the National Amateur Gay Athletics Association of America, the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce, the LGBT Victory Institute, Out & Equal, and One Colorado, notes Denver Pride’s official website.
The beer brand has organized events and Pride marches across different cities to raise funds for the same cause, while also spreading awareness about issues prevalent to minorities.
Reportedly, it is also recognized as one of the first companies to offer same-sex domestic partner benefits and bagged the honor of being the Corporation of the Year by the National Gay & Lesbian Chamber of Commerce in 2015.
Did Bud Light change their cans in 2023?
No, Bud Light hasn’t officially changed the design of its can in 2023.
However, Bud Light Canada did launch rainbow-themed Pride cans as a part of its Bud Light Camp for a limited period in 2022.
The special design was created to celebrate coming out and accepting everyone just the way they are by including different pronouns to celebrate each individual’s identity.
However, many have confused the previous design to have replaced Bud Light’s classic label in 2023, which isn’t true.
