Unfortunately, it’s pretty common for death hoaxes to spread about celebrities and the latest victim is footballer Neymar Junior. Rumors began yesterday that he had died, but we can confirm that Neymar is not dead and is alive and well in 2023.
There’s always one going around and they always frighten fans, but we can’t explain why celebrity death hoaxes happen. Possibly for the drama or the engagement, but either way it’s not fair on fans or the people they target. On Thursday (March 23) legendary footballer Neymar was thought to be dead by some after rumors began spreading, however, they were untrue.
Why did people think Neymar was dead?
It all started when a Facebook page was set up called ‘RIP Neymar’. Quickly, it gained over 1 million likes with thousands of fans completely shocked and sending messages of grief and condolences for the Brazillian footballer.
Clearly, fans of the footballer believed the page to be real, especially when they gave details such as his time of death. The about section read:
“At about 11 a.m. ET on Thursday (March 23, 2023), our beloved footballer Neymar passed away. Neymar was born on February 5, 1992, in São Paulo. He will be missed but not forgotten. Please show your sympathy and condolences by commenting on and liking this page.”
‘News’ then spread to Twitter, and fans on the microblogging site were then searching for answers if the claims were true.
Did Neymar die?
No. The 31-year-old was posting on his Instagram stories to his 206 million followers less than a day ago. So the hoax is a complete lie.
Plus, the footballer’s representatives released a statement putting the baseless claims to rest:
“He joins the long list of celebrities who have been victimized by this hoax. He’s still alive and well, stop believing what you see on the internet.”
The Facebook page has now been deleted, with fans relieved to know that the talented sportsman isn’t going anywhere anytime soon.
Currently, Neymar is playing for Paris Saint Germain, however, the footballer will be absent from the rest of the season as he undergoes surgery. It’s possible that the news of his surgery stemmed from the death hoax, but this cannot be confirmed.

Is Neymar Junior married?
The Brazillian footballer is not married but has rekindled his relationship with model Bruna Biancardi. The two had split up in August 2022, but a birthday post from February confirmed that the two were back together.
Though some hearts were definitely broken by the revelation, many fans were thrilled that the footballer and model were a couple again.
Though Neymar has never been married, he does have a son. Born in 2011, the footballer shares Davi Lucca with ex-girlfriend Carolina Dantas.
The two are still friendly and celebrate birthdays together along with their son, who Neymar Junior shows off on his Instagram.
Even more than just alive, Neymar is living the life. Hopefully, there won’t be any more death hoaxes about the footballer again.
