Bobby Lee

Comedian Bobby Lee has gone viral after old podcast clips of him telling a story about sex workers on holiday to Tijuana resurfaced on TikTok.

WARNING: Content of a disturbing nature ahead

Bobby Lee is an outspoken comedian who has become best known for appearing on a range of popular podcasts in recent years.

Lee, who has become something of a cult hero after his appearances on the likes of the Joe Rogan Experience, is not known for holding his tongue, and his abrasive, unfiltered style has garnered him a range of plaudits and critics alike.

But one particularly bleak story that Lee has told on a number of occasions has resurfaced again online, and users on TikTok are calling for him to face repercussions for telling it.

Bobby Lee’s Tijuana podcast story explained

The story that has landed Lee, now aged 51, in hot water centers around a trip he and his friends took to Tijuana, a city on the Mexican coast, in his early 20s.

On each occasion he has told the story, Lee began by saying he was walking down a street known as “Hooker Alley” in which there were numerous sex workers. He then proceeds to explain that he approached a woman in the alleyway, before going to a nearby hotel with her.

Lee then tells a rather dark story of having sex with the woman, who he says began to cry whilst the pair were having sex, which Lee says prompted him to use more “power” so that he could “get it over with”.

Lee most recently told the Tijuana story on Theo Von’s This Past Weekend podcast in January 2020, during which he was pressed by Von over the woman’s age, though Lee stressed that it was an adult woman and not a child with whom the incident occurred.

TikTok goes after Lee as Tijuana clips resurface

Some users on TikTok have re-uploaded recordings of Lee telling the story on various podcasts, prompting a backlash that has seen various creators call for his cancellation.

The source of the anger around Lee’s comment appears to stem from the fact that many viewers cannot tell if the story is intended to be a joke or not. Given Lee’s deadpan sense of humor and his tendency to deliver rather dark jokes, some people are unsure if he is genuinely bragging about what happened, or just trying to use shock humor to get a laugh.

In a video that shows reuploaded footage of his comments on Von’s podcast, which has over 1.4 million views at the time of writing, the most liked comment claims that “Bobby got strangely defensive” when pressed on the story by Von, while another commenter added that they like Lee “less and less as time goes by”.

The anger at Lee’s quotes also spread to Twitter, where Lee has not tweeted since February. The comedian also made his Instagram private this year, though he has not publically addressed any of the criticism he has received for the Tijuana story.

Ethan Klein claims to have spoken to Lee about the story

While Lee has not addressed the Tijuana story as of yet, another internet personality has made his thoughts clear on the situation, and claims to have spoken to Lee about the story.

H3 podcast host Ethan Klein has addressed the Tijuan tale, and in a re-uploaded clip could be heard explaining that he found Lee’s story “disturbing”, and reached out to the 51-year-old after hearing it.

Klein explained to his YouTube audience that he reached out to Lee after he heard the clip for the first time, and claims that Lee responded by saying the story was “a joke” in an attempt at “dark” comedy and that the incident hadn’t actually happened.

Klein went on to say that he had to take Lee’s word for it, as he was the only person involved in the joke that he was able to get a comment from as the identity of the woman is unknown.
