Palmeiras v America MG - Brasileirao 2022

Wolves are not yet in ‘advanced’ talks to bring Palmeiras ace Raphael Veiga to the Premier League, Brazilian reporter Jorge Nicola explains after consulting a source at the Brazilian giants.

This year already, the 2021 Copa Libartadores lost two key players to English clubs. Well, one English club in particular. Nottingham Forest snapped up Gustavo Scarpa – the Brazilian league’s reigning player of the year – before landing Danilo a few weeks later.

Veiga could potentially be boarding the next cab off the rank.

In addition to Wolverhampton Wanderers, Arsenal, Chelsea and Fulham are keeping tabs on the 27-year-old attacking midfielder (Goal Brasil).

And frmer Brazil international Neto is convinced that Molineux will be his destination.

“The information I have; Rafael Veiga will leave Palmeiras. He will be sold,” Neto tells Donos da Bola. “Rafael Veiga will leave Palmeiras. Wolves; He goes to this team.”

Neto may still be proven correct, of course. But reporter Jorge Nicola, having spoken to a source behind the scenes at the Allianz Parque, believes that there is still a long way to go before Veiga is donning Old Gold.

Will Wolves beat Arsenal, Chelsea and Fulham to Raphael Veiga

“I consulted a source at Palmeiras,” Nicola explains. “And he told me that there are no advanced negotiations. Although he did not rule out that Wolves are interested in the player.”

One of the most prolific midfielders around, Veiga scored 21 times in all competitions last season after netting 18 in the two campaigns prior. He has also accumulated no fewer than eight trophies during six years at Palmeiras, including a pair of Copa Libertadores titles.

It does not take a footballing genius to work out what a man of his creativity and goal-threat could bring to a Wolves side ranking towards the bottom of the Premier League when it comes to productivity in the final third.

Ramon Menezes, Brazil’s interim coach, rewarded Veiga with his first-ever call up for the March international break recently.

“I chose to give opportunities to new players who have been producing good performances with their clubs, like Veiga,” Menezes tells Lance.

“Veiga is a decisive, a technical player. In my opinion, he is that midfielder, a number 10.”
