Club announce 26-year-old Newcastle & Liverpool target will now leave for free

Newcastle and Liverpool have now received a boost in their respective pursuits of Daichi Kamada after Eintracht Frankfurt released a statement.

What’s the story?

Well, it was 90min who claimed back in February that Eddie Howe and Jürgen Klopp are both keen to sign the Japan international on a free transfer when his contract expires in July.

There was a chance of Kamada signing fresh terms with Eintracht Frankfurt.

Now – however – the reigning Europa League champions have announced that their No.15 will be leaving this summer as he is keen on a new experience, despite their attempts to keep him.

Markus Krösche – Director of Football at Eintracht Frankfurt – said: “Daichi Kamada has developed into a very good Bundesliga player at Eintracht Frankfurt over the past few years and has played his part in the club’s sporting development – culminating in last season’s Europa League triumph.

“We would have liked Daichi to remain at Eintracht, but that didn’t align with the player’s interests. We thank him for his commitment to Eintracht and wish him all the best for the future.”

Kamada has scored 13 goals and provided five assists in 38 appearances this season from an attacking midfield role.

Liverpool have to beat Newcastle to Kamada

In our view, Liverpool need Kamada more than Newcastle do – for financial reasons as well as sporting reasons.

The Reds do not boast the funds of Newcastle under their Saudi Arabian ownership, which has allowed them to spend £40m on Bruno Guimaraes, £32m on Sven Botman, £40m on Anthony Gordon and £63m on Alexander Isak in just over 12 months.

Therefore, it is imperative that Liverpool beat Newcastle to the bargain that is Kamada on a free transfer, as Klopp may not be able to outbid clubs for another player of the 26-year-old’s quality.

Furthermore – from a sporting aspect rather than financial – Liverpool need a genuine midfield overhaul as the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Naby Keita head for the exit this summer, and others, like James Milner and Jordan Henderson, aren’t what they used to be.

Therefore, it is a case of quantity over quality as numbers are needed – in fact, that is why Liverpool have abandoned their interest in Jude Bellingham in fear of blowing the entire budget on one player, according to The Times.

Be sure to keep an eye on this situation, as whoever signs Kamara will be getting a tremendous footballer.
