iPhone’s new feature, clean energy charging, deliberately slows down the rate at which your phone battery charges, and some annoyed users want to know how to turn it off.
iOS updates often stir conversations among users for all kinds of reasons. Some updates like the Advanced Data Protection are viewed as highly useful, but the latest feature is set as default, and people feel they should have a say in it.
The tech giant rolled out the latest version of iOS, and macOS in December 2022 with developed features such as sleep and medication widgets.
Even though the clean energy charging feature is billed as environmentally friendly, users want to turn it on when they wish to and keep it off otherwise.

How to turn off clean energy charging on iPhone
The clean energy charging feature comes as a default option with the latest iPhone update, but here’s how you can turn it off.
- Go to your Phone Settings.
- Select the battery option.
- Go to battery health and charging.
- Select clean energy charging
- Click off to disable the feature.
The feature is believed to slow your phone’s charge during peak hours of electricity use.
It also uses the location information to reduce the rate at which the battery charges if you happen to be in a region of the country with higher carbon emission electricity and less solar or wind.
Apple aims to reduce carbon footprint
Apple has been vocal about its clean energy charging feature since last year, although it quietly rolled out with its latest update.

The brand is aiming to reduce its carbon footprint by controlling the users’ charging habits, which is being debated about.
Meanwhile, some users have claimed that their phones are charging slowly after the feature was rolled out, but there’s no truth to it.
Your phone is supposed to charge at a normal rate once the clean energy charging feature has been turned off.
Users react to the new feature
A lot of users have argued that the feature isn’t serving much purpose as it fails to consider the fact that some people charge their phones using power generated through solar or wind.
One user wrote: “I charge via solar, but iOS doesn’t know that and adjusts charging times regardless. Look, if you’re going to stealth force Clean Energy Charging, at least know how to implement it.”
“I don’t care if it draws from clean energy or not, I just expect it to charge when I put it on charge,” wrote another.
“iPhone charges slow as it is, Now it won’t even charge unless somehow it knows the electricity is clean. Between this and no charger in the box, they have saved hundreds of trees,” wrote a third person.
