TONY Award-winning actress Carlin Glynn, known for appearing in the hit 1984 film Sixteen Candles is dead at the age of 83.
Glynn reportedly died of complications from dementia and cancer on July 13.

Her death was confirmed by her daughter, Mary Stuart Masterson, who wrote on Instagram that she was with her mother in her last moments.
“She was the most graceful clumsy person you would ever meet,” wrote Masterson. “Strong, smart, silly, intuitive, kind, generous, passionate and a deep listener.
“She was devoted to my father and to the enormous circle of students and collaborators who were considered her chosen family.”
Masterson shared a photo of a young Glynn, along with one from her 80th birthday “before the worst of dementia and cancer took their toll.”

“She never lost her sense of joy or wonder.”
Glynn was born on February 19, 1940, in Cleveland, Ohio but raised in Houston, Texas, and attended the Mirabeau B. Lamar High School.
After graduating high school, Glynn moved to New York and studied at the Actors Studio before moving back to Houston.
There she met her husband, Peter Masterson, an actor and playwright who wrote The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas – the Broadway hit that led to her Tony win.
Glynn also had roles on the big screen such as Mae Barber in Three Days of the Condor in 1975 and playing Brenda Baker, the mother of Molly Ringwald’s character Samantha “Sam” Baker in Sixteen Candles.
Her husband died in 2018. She is survived by their children, Mary Stuart Masterson, Alexandra Masterson, and Peter Masterson, Jr.
