Cara Delevingne thought she was in a good place in life until she saw paparazzi pictures of herself taken at an airport in September 2022.
The British model opened up about her past with substance abuse, which contributed to her rather erratic behavior and shocking appearance.
The same year, Cara was subject to trolls when her antics at the Billboard awards were too evident to not notice. A video of her being extremely weird around Megan Thee Stallion only directed more attention towards her.
However, the airport pictures were pivotal in making her realize she “wasn’t okay” and that she needed help, which prompted her to consider a 12-step rehabilitation program.
Cara Delevingne’s 2022 airport pictures
In a recent interview with Vogue, Cara spoke about her photographs from September 2022 which were captured at Los Angeles’ Van Nuys Airport.
She looked disheveled in the pictures as she walked around frantically with only socks on her foot.
Explaining her infamous shots, the model said, “I hadn’t slept. I was not okay, explaining that she had been traveling for work.
“It’s heartbreaking because I thought I was having fun, but at some point, it was like, ‘Okay, I don’t look well.’ You know, sometimes you need a reality check, so in a way, those pictures were something to be grateful for.”
Reflecting on her usage of substances in the past, she also said: “There’s an element of feeling invincible when I’m on drugs. I put myself in danger in those moments because I don’t care about my life.”
She was returning from the Burning Man event
Cara was spotted at the airport in Los Angeles when she was returning from the Burning Man event in 2022. She was reportedly covered in bruises.

“I would climb anything and jump off stuff … it felt feral,” she said, explaining those bruises.
Even though she thought she was having fun, the pictures opened her eyes wide and she was exposed to reality. Cara said she is grateful to the picture in a way because she wasn’t ready for rehabilitation until then, despite having had interventions of a “sort”.
“All I knew is if I was continuing to go down the road I was, I would either end up dead or, like, doing something really, really stupid, the Only Murders in the Building star said.
However, with the help of friends and her own determination, she entered a rehab at the end of 2022 and committed to a 12-step program.

Cara said she’s taking things one day at a time and being careful about her career choices while also consider long-term goals such as motherhood.
“I’ve wanted a kid since I was 16,” said Cara as she hoped to freeze her eggs one day.
“I want babies so bad. Back then I would not have been ready, of course—I just wanted to replace the need to look after my mom with a kid of my own.”
Cara is now taking a trip in her RV. “I still have a lot of energy, but it’s not erratic. I’m calmer. I’m stiller,” she added.
