'Brilliant': Pundit seriously impressed with 28-year-old's latest Arsenal display

Danny Murphy has hailed Leandro Trossard after his role in securing another win for Mikel Arteta’s Arsenal on Saturday afternoon.

Arsenal beat Leicester City 1-0 on Saturday afternoon with Gabriel Martinelli scoring the winner straight after half-time.

Two wins in two is a perfect response to three games without a win and Arsenal continue their march towards the Premier League title.

Arteta made a surprise decision with his lineup before the game as Eddie Nketiah was left on the bench.

Gabriel Martinelli came back into the side with January signing Trossard deployed as something of a false nine.

The move worked to perfection; Trossard set up Martinelli to score Arsenal’s only goal of the game.

Trossard buried a beautiful strike in the first half but sadly saw the goal ruled out by VAR.

Arteta can be delighted with his decision and may well have faith in that setup moving forward too.

Danny Murphy praises Arsenal ace Leandro Trossard

Pundit Danny Murphy has now heaped praise on Trossard after his performance against Leicester on Saturday.

Murphy told the Daily Mail that he felt Trossard was simply ‘brilliant’ against Leicester.

Murphy feels Trossard played the false nine role superbly and used his intelligence to make a real impact in that role.

The former Liverpool man added that Trossard may not be a direct attacker like Eddie Nketiah but he helps connect the game between midfield and attack.

“They say it’s best to strengthen from a position of strength and Arsenal are reaping the rewards of an excellent January transfer window. The league leaders didn’t sulk after missing out on Mykhailo Mudryk and Moises Caceido, they went straight to Plan B and brought in Leandro Trossard and Jorginho who have made significant contributions already,” said Murphy.

“I thought Trossard was brilliant as a false nine at Leicester today. He won’t be as direct an attacking threat as Eddie Nketiah but he’s an intelligent footballer and helped Arsenal to control the game by knowing when to drop deep,” he added.

The Belgian played in so many positions at Brighton that it was hard to gauge what his favourite position really was.

Left wing, number 10, false nine, wing back… Trossard was so flexible at Brighton and Mikel Arteta can now reap those rewards.

Trossard will mostly play as a winger for Arsenal but Saturday’s performance showed that he can play in the attack too – and with great effect.
