Thomas Tuchel was linked with replacing Antonio Conte at Tottenham Hotspur, but the former Chelsea boss has joined Bayern Munich instead.
Bayern have announced on their official website that they have released head coach Julian Nagelsmann from the role at the Allianz Arena and have replaced him with Tuchel.
The German boss was sacked by Chelsea earlier in the season.
Earlier this month, GiveMeSport reported that Tuchel was “seen by some” as a “serious candidate” to replace Antonio Conte at Tottenham Hotspur.
And while there were rumours that the former Paris Saint-Germain manager would be open to working again in the Premier League, he has now taken charge of Bayern.
And this has not come as a surprise to former Arsenal star and Sky Sports pundit Paul Merson.

Paul Merson on Tottenham Hotspur-linked Thomas Tuchel’s Bayern Munich decision

Merson wrote in The Daily Star: “I’m not surprised to see Thomas Tuchel land the Bayern Munich job – even if it was a bolt from the blue.
“He’s an elite manager and Bayern have looked at it thinking ‘who is the best manager out there? Tuchel, so we’ll go now’. There was no messing about.
“His agents will have been on the phone to Bayern and told them that he could be offered the Tottenham job and the deal has been done pronto.
“I know Bayern are second in the Bundesliga and one point behind Borussia Dortmund ahead of Der Klassiker, but they need to win the Champions League.
“Tuchel knows how to crack the competition and his arrival is also a banana skin for Pep Guardiola ahead of Man City’s quarter-final against Bayern. That tie has just become harder.”
