BEYONCE’s mom Tina Knowles has praised her creative grandkids while also urging them to be good people as they reach fame.
On Monday, Tina, 70, appeared on Today with Hoda & Jenna to promote her and superstar daughter’s Cécred hair product line.
While speaking with Hoda Kotb, 59, and Jenna Bush Hager, 42, about fashion, motherhood, and a variety of other subjects, the businesswoman briefly spoke about being a grandmother.
Tina is grandmother to Beyoncé, 42, and her husband Jay-Z’s daughter Blue Ivy, 12, and twins Rumi and Sir, six, and her daughter Solange’s son Julez J. Smith Jr., 19.
Jenna asked, “What do you like as a grandmother? I know it’s one of your deepest joys.”
The House of Deréon stylist replied, “It’s the best.
“With grandkids you don’t have the pressure of taking responsibility for how they turn out, so you get to just indulge them and let them have noisy toys that drive their parents [crazy].”
Tina continued, “It’s just the best, they are the best, my grandkids are all super creative and I just love them to death.”
Hoda asked, “What do they call you?”
“They call me grandma,” Tina responded happily.
Hoda then asked about some of Tina’s grandkids “going down the musical route” and if that’s something she’s “watching.”
Blue has already won a Grammy and frequently joins her mom on stage as a dancer during performances.
“We’re watching but you know, they still have a lot of time,” Tina answered.
She continued, “They’re all super – they’re great artists, visual artists, and very smart so, we don’t know what’s going to happen. Whatever they want to do we just want to support that.”
When discussing raising her children, Tina revealed how she instilled confidence in them as she told the hosts, “Just for them I think the first thing [I taught them] was to be a good person, no matter what you choose to do in life.
“It sounds like a cliché, but it’s very true.”
