Owen Hargreaves says Danny Ings is a ‘better footballer than people give him credit for’ after he netted a brace for West Ham United on Saturday following his Aston Villa exit.
Whilst Ollie Watkins was scoring for his fifth consecutive game for Aston Villa, his former partner in crime was helping West Ham United to a deserved 4-0 win over Nottingham Forest on the very same afternoon.
In truth, Villa did David Moyes’ side a bit of a favour because their three points came against Everton, who are battling West Ham in their relegation scrap.

That brace from Ings means that he now has eight Premier League goals this season, which is the same amount as Watkins.
That’s some going for the 30-year-old because Watkins was the regular starter under Steven Gerrard and now Unai Emery, whereas a lot of his minutes came from the bench.
Nonetheless, former England midfielder Owen Hargreaves lauded Ings following his January transfer from Villa to West Ham, as he told Generation XG on Premier League Productions (27/02/23 at 5:45 pm).
“I think this is an underrated part of his game (his passing),” said Hargreaves. “I think he is a lot better footballer than people give him credit for.

“In the end, he is only looking to get in somewhere who can help him score goals. That’s a great ball, by the way (switched the ball to the flanks v Nottingham Forest).
“That’s why I think goalscoring is such a skill. There is an art to arriving at the time and helping your side. He has an instinct for what the moment needs and it’s exactly what West Ham have needed – you like to think Danny Ings is the perfect fit for West Ham.”

INGS WILL KEEP WEST HAM UP
Whilst Ings’ debut campaign at Villa was frustrating and a bit of a struggle, he has been performing a lot better this season, but he just wasn’t earning the regular starts.
Unai Emery actually wanted to keep the former Liverpool man in B6, but given that he was playing second fiddle to Watkins, then it isn’t a surprise that he decided to leave.
And, in truth, both players have benefited, as a result, and it will be interesting to see what numbers the duo hit before the season is out.
