Many may recognize the actor Ben Stein from his role as the teacher in the classic 1980s feel-good flick Ferris Bueller’s Day Off. However, a recent video of the actor has been circulating the internet, as he rants about the rebranding of the pancake syrup brand formerly known as Aunt Jemima.
Ben Stein first began acting in 1984 and has had a long career in the industry. From Ferris Bueller to Family Guy, Stein has been around for decades lending his face and voice to various productions.
Although recently, the actor came under fire for his controversial comments regarding the rebranding of Aunt Jemima syrup.
The viral video has caused mass amounts of controversy all over the internet, but especially on the social media site Twitter.

From Aunt Jemima to Pearl Milling Company
In June 2020, The Quaker Oats Company and PepsiCo released a statement proclaiming they were making “a commitment to change the name and image of Aunt Jemima”. The company was first started in 1888. By 1889 the company had developed its famous pancake mix, later branding the product under the Aunt Jemima name.
Now known as the Pearl Milling Company, the rebrand was due to the company “recognizing” the Aunt Jemima brand did not “reflect our core values”. Since then the company has gone on to use the name Pearl Milling Company on all its former Aunt Jemima products.

However, it seems the rebrand has sparked some rather late controversy as Bein Stein is seemingly not happy with the new product. Even though the rebrand happened almost 3 years ago, it seems the actor still has more to say on the subject.
In the video, the actor complains about the syrup, claiming he prefers the old branding. He claimed the reason was due to the “inherent racism of America’s corporate culture.”

The actor has an incredibly unpopular perspective as the video has sparked mass amounts of backlash from Twitter users. One user expressed: “I wish my life was so simple I had time to notice or care about a food label changing.”
Another proclaimed: “You’re a millionaire just buy real syrup”.
It seems many on the site are appalled by the actor’s recent video, with endless comments criticizing his statement.
