BBC pundit predicts huge decision at Tottenham Hotspur within days

Pundit Garth Crooks believes it wouldn’t be surprise to see Antonio Conte leave Tottenham Hotspur before the end of the week.

There’s never a dull day at Tottenham Hotspur is there?

You would think that there could finally be a normal day with Spurs 3-1 up at relegation-threatened Southampton on Saturday afternoon.

Instead, Spurs contrived to concede two goals and only manage a 3-3 draw on the South Coast.

That sparked an absolute tirade from Antonio Conte, with the Spurs boss questioning the desire of his players – even calling them selfish.

Tottenham are somehow fourth in the table and seemingly in crisis at the same time, which may well lead to Conte’s departure.

Garth Crooks thinks Antonio Conte could leave Tottenham this week

Conte’s comments have sparked major debate over whether the Italian should still be in charge.

Pundit and former Tottenham Hotspur striker Garth Crooks has now offered his view to BBC Sport.

Crooks thinks Conte losing his cool isn’t a surprise has been a long time coming after so many disappointing performances and results.

Crooks feels that Conte’s comments were ultimately the ‘most excellent advert’ for trying to get sacked, seemingly suggesting that the Italian wants out.

The former Spurs man would be ‘be amazed’ if Conte is still manager come the end of the week.

“After four defeats on the road for Tottenham, and their latest showing at Southampton, I’m not in the least bit surprised that Antonio Conte has blown his top,” said Crooks. “In his press conference, the Italian called his players selfish, lacking in spirit, with a poor attitude, and his board lacking in ambition. In fact, it was the most excellent advert for getting the sack I’ve seen for some time, and I will be amazed if he lasts the week,” he added.

Some thought that Conte may already be gone by now having made such angry comments.

The international break is now upon us and this may give Tottenham a couple of weeks to make a firm plan.

Conte is surely leaving this summer anyway, but it’s over to Daniel Levy to make a decision for the here and now.

Levy must work out if Conte is the right man to continue for the top four push and then leave this summer, or whether to cut ties right now and go with an interim boss like Ryan Mason.
