MOVIE star and Golden Globe winner Barbara Rush has died at 97.
The actress, most famous for her roles in It Came From Outer Space and Peyton Place, died on March 31 evening.
Her daughter Claudia Cowan confirmed that her mother died “peacefully” on Easter Sunday.
“My wonderful mother passed away peacefully at 5:28 this evening. I was with her this morning and know she was waiting for me to return home safely to transition,” she told Fox News.
“It’s fitting she chose to leave on Easter as it was one of her favorite holidays and now, of course, Easter will have a deeper significance for me and my family.”
Her death comes just months after her daughter posted a birthday tribute that described her mother as “golden” on Instagram.
“She is golden, she is a diamond, she glows like the moon and shines like the sun,” Cowan wrote in January.
“Age does not diminish the light in her eyes, the sweetness of her heart, or the wisdom in her soul.
“To me, she is 97 years young.”
Rush had a successful career that spanned over seven decades and saw her work with Hollywood greats like Marlon Brando and Dean Martin.
The legendary actress was particularly famous for her 1950s melodramas.
She started her acting career on the stage but got her breakthrough in the 1953 science fiction horror film It Came From Outer Space.
This portrayal landed her a prestigious Golden Globe for most promising newcomer – female.
She later played with Frank Sinatra in the 1963 film Come Blow Your Horn and the 1964 Robin and the 7 Hoods.
Rush also had a hugely successful TV career and is best known for her acting in Peyton Place.
She starred as Marsha Russell in dozens of episodes of the prime-time soap opera.
This was not the only soap opera Rush worked on as she also portrayed Eudora Weldon in NBC’s Flamingo Road.
Rush was married and divorced three times in her life.
She was first married to actor Jeffery Hunter in 1950, then married Warren Cowan in 1959, and finally married the sculptor Jim Gruzalski in 1970.
Rush had spent the final years of her life out of the Hollywood spotlight.
Her daughter Claudia shared an image with her mother on Instagram in February this year.
“Time with my mom is extra special these days,” Cowan wrote at the time.
“As her clock slowly winds down, I am visiting her as much as possible so that she knows how much I love and appreciate her.
“And, so that I know in my heart, neither of us has to worry.”
