The highly anticipated and long-delayed HBO series The Idol has been the talk of Twitter recently following an article published by Rolling Stone that explores the issues faced by Amy Seimetz faced during her time as director.
Created by The Weeknd (Abel Tesfaye), Reza Fahim, and Euphoria writer Sam Levinson, The Idol details an aspiring pop idol who attempts to reclaim her path to fame after a canceled tour and a nervous breakdown.
The HBO series stars Lily-Rose Depp as the main character Jocelyn. Tesfaye will star alongside Depp in the role of Tedors. The dark satirical drama is even set to star Blackpink’s Jennie Kim.
Initially, when the series was announced, Amy Seimetz was set to direct all 6 episodes of the upcoming drama. However, last year it was announced that Seimetz would be exiting the HBO series, with Sam Levinson taking over the position as director on The Idol.

Amy Seimetz rumored to have faced an ‘impossible situation’ when filming The Idol
According to a recent report in Rolling Stone, production for the series was initially intended to premiere in the fall of 2022. The Idol series would neatly take over the Sunday time slot from HBO’s House Of The Dragon.
However, as the months pass, still little is known about the release date of the HBO show. Thirteen cast and crew members of the series were reportedly interviewed by Rolling Stone. In the interview, one member claimed Sam Levinson was the reason for the major delays in production.
Sam Levinson took over the directing position on The Idol after it was recently announced that Amy Seimetz would be exiting the show. “Amy was doing her best in an impossible situation, but she was going to lose this no matter what” a first-time showrunner claimed.
Although Seimetz seems like an authentic fit for the dark, satirical show, other crew members claimed her “female perspective” was badly received. One cast member went further, stating Seimetz was deeply missed during the production.

“I’m really heartbroken that Amy wasn’t there to see it through. She put her neck on the line for this project…”
They continued: “She tried to make it work and fit a square peg into a round hole, [only] for all of that work to be eradicated and overwritten by Sam Levinson”.
Writer and director Sam Levinson allegedly scrapped all parts of Seimetz’s original script for The Idol. What was initially a tale that focused on the experience of Depp’s character, has apparently evolved into “a show about a man who gets to abuse this woman and she loves it”.
Furthermore, the cast and crew members go into explicit detail to Rolling Stone about alleged controversial scenes shot during the production of the series. “There is no point. They’re just trying to see how much of a reaction they can get” one crew member stated.

Amy Seimetz is a well-known actress, producer, and director. Her early career began when she started producing and directing short films, then moving on to independent productions like the 2012 film Sun Don’t Shine.
Her most notable works include acting on the television series The Girlfriend Experience and starring as Rachel in the 2019 adaptation of Pet Sematary. Amy Seimetz also directed the 2020 independent horror film She Dies Tomorrow. More recently, the director worked on 2 episodes of the television series Outer Range.
