Angie Stone dead aged 63: Iconic soul singer killed in horror car crash after gig as daughter pays tribute

ICONIC hip-hop singer Angie Stone was killed in a horror car crash following one of her shows.

The artist, 63, died in Montgomery, Alabama, early on Saturday morning as her daughter led tributes to the star.

Angie’s representative Deborah R. Champagne confirmed the heartbreaking news to TMZ.

The music legend died when her vehicle flipped, but the nine other people travelling with her survived, according to Music producer Walter Millsap III.

He said: “Unfortunately, at around 4am while heading back to Atlanta from Alabama, the Sprinter flipped over and was subsequently hit by a big rig.

“Thankfully, all survived except for Angie.”

Further details about the fatal accident have not been released yet.

Angie posted on her Instagram last week that she was due to perform at the CIAA tournament in Baltimore, Maryland, on May 1.

Her daughter Diamond Stone led touching tributes to the music icon, in a Facebook post.

Diamond confirmed her mother’s death and said: “My mommy is gone.”

Angie is also survived by her son Michael Archer and two grandchildren.

Fans left touching tributes to the icon on her social media posts.

Actress Claudia Jordan said: “Rest in peace Angie. Just spoke to you a lil over a month ago and you sounded great and happy!

“I still can’t believe this!!”

One fan wrote: “Rest in Paradise, Songbird.”

Another person said: “Angie, your song ‘Brotha’ always affirmed me. It was an anthem.

“You have left an impact on the culture. Rest in peace, Queen.”

Angie shot to fame as part of the all-female hip-hop group The Sequence.

The trio were the first women group to be signed to the iconic Sugar Hill Records and they were best known hits like Funk You Up.

This song was sampled by Bruno Mars for his worldwide number one Uptown Funk and by Dr Dre in his song Keep Their Heads Ringin’.

Angie later left the group after six years and embarked on a solo career in the 1990s.

The star, whose real name is Angela Brown, was born in Columbia, South Carolina, on December 18, 1961.

FINAL MESSAGE

Angie posted a tragic last message on her Instagram account just says before she was killed.

The star told fans she was working on a big “surprise” and several projects.

The soul legend said she was getting ready to work on film, television, tours, artists, and songwriting projects.

She said: “I’m never just sitting still. I’m always on the move. I’m always doing something.”

Angie even revealed she had planned an “entire UK tour”.
