Ahead of this year’s Red Nose Day, Sainsbury’s and other supermarkets are rolling out a number of initiatives to fundraise and share their support of Comic Relief.
Red Nose Day is the main event in the Comic Relief calendar. The charity, set up by Love Actually director Richard Curtis and comedian Lenny Henry, has been active since 1985 to raise money for people the world over. Every two years, Red Nose Day brings together the biggest and best talent the UK has to offer for a mega fundraising push.
Supermarket retailer Sainsbury’s has been partners with Comic Relief since 1999. They have helped raise a staggering £153 million over the years supporting people in the UK and around the world. But what do Sainsbury’s have in store for this year’s Red Nose Day? Let’s take a look.

What are Sainsbury’s doing for Red Nose Day 2023?
If you’ve been to your local Sainsbury’s branch and noticed a distinct lack of Red Nose themed items, then you might be curious as to how the supermarket is involved in this year’s Red Nose Day. Instead of fundraising by selling Red Nose Day merchandise, Sainsbury’s is working behind-the-scenes to help the charity.
Sainsbury’s and Comic Relief have launched a new joint venture called Nourish the Nation. This initiative focuses on tackling food poverty in the UK and around the world. It is an initiative that runs year-round, meaning that Sainsbury’s are always working to support Comic Relief.
Sainsbury’s will no longer stock red noses for Comic Relief
A February tradition that has developed in many households across the nation is now at its end. Previously, the month leading up to Red Nose Day saw Sainsbury’s stock the famous Red Noses. You might have already realized that the Red Noses are no longer available at the supermarket stores.
This year sees Comic Relief partner with Amazon as the exclusive retailer of the famous Red Noses. “This will help expand our reach enormously and make getting involved in Red Nose Day quick and easy,” an announcement from Comic Relief explains. The Red Noses will be available online from the start of February and in Amazon Fresh stores from February 23, 2023.
You can also purchase Red Nose Day merch via the official Comic Relief online store.

No more Sainsbury’s Red Nose Day scratch cards
With no more Red Nose Day merch sold at Sainsbury’s, that means an end to the Red Nose Day scratch cards.
Sainsbury’s RND scratch cards were previously sold in stores for just £1 each, with all the money going to Comic Relief. It was a brilliant way to win some seriously fun prizes. Previous years have seen prizes such as an iPhone 12, Playstation 5, Tassimo Coffee Maker, or even some stylish RayBan sunglasses.
There are still prizes up for grabs this Red Nose Day 2023. But they are now coordinated through the Comic Relief website.
