Antonio Conte Tottenham Hotspur

Tottenham Hotspur could soon be looking to bring a new manager in at N17.

Antonio Conte’s brutally honest post-match interview last weekend has led to speculation about his Spurs future.

Reports have been doing the rounds claiming Tottenham are plotting to part company with Conte soon.

With that in mind, Spurs will have to get their next appointment spot-on.

Tottenham have tried their luck with two marquee managers in Conte and Jose Mourinho, but neither has worked out.

Meanwhile, Nuno Espirito Santo seemed like a good young option for the future, but that didn’t work out either.

So, who could Spurs be looking at to replace Conte in the dugout?

Luis Enrique is one of the names doing the rounds.

Now, Italian journalist Tony Damascelli has reported that Spurs have “already” made contact with the Spaniard.

Damascelli spoke to Radio Radio on Tuesday and lifted the lid on Tottenham’s pursuit of Enrique.

He also gave his verdict on Conte’s position at Spurs, suggesting he should resign.

“If you have dignity and you want to follow up on those words, you have to resign,” Damascelli said, as transcribed by CMW and Sport Witness.

“His accusation in conference, the tone, must lead to only one consequence.

“If you look at Tottenham’s history, it’s as if you were coming to Lazio who have won only one Scudetto recently.

“That’s why they hired him, if you let the team bottom of the table draw with you at 3-3, things aren’t right.

“There are two things: either dismissal or resignation.

“I know that Luis Enrique has already been contacted, there is a good possibility that he will go to England.”

Another marquee option

Enrique is a top manager who has worked wonders for Barcelona and Spain.

The 52-year-old was an icon for both club and country – as well as Real Madrid – in his playing days.

In 2008, Enrique began his coaching career at Barcelona B before subsequently managing Roma and Celta Vigo.

And in 2014, he then took the reins of Barcelona’s first team, enjoying three successful years at Camp Nou.

This included winning the Champions League in 2015.

Enrique then became head coach of Spain in 2018, a role he briefly vacated in 2019 before resuming it later that year and holding until 2022.

He is currently unattached, making him an even more viable option for Tottenham at this point in the season.

However, would another marquee manager fit the bill at Spurs after two equally high-profile appointments since Mauricio Pochettino’s departure?
