Gabby Agbonlahor has stated on Twitter that Ollie Watkins ‘destroyed’ Newcastle United after Aston Villa’s thumping 3-0 win over Eddie Howe’s men on Saturday at Villa Park.
The former Villa striker thinks Ollie Watkins was a ‘nightmare’ and a ‘handful’ for Sven Botman and Dan Burn, as Unai Emery’s men made Newcastle look like schoolboys from start to finish in a dominant display.
Inside the first minute, the signs were clear when Villa’s man in-form went through on goal, only for his shot to kiss the post as it beat Nick Pope in between the sticks.

The home side continued knocking the door down when John McGinn’s wicked cross inside the penalty area was headed down by Watkins for the on-rushing Jacob Ramsey to open the scoring, moments later he would hit the crossbar.
Inside 20 minutes, Villa should have been 3-0 up, but they kept their cool after the break and Watkins, after seeing a goal ruled out, netted a brace in next to no time to make it 14 goals for the season.
Speaking on talkSPORT (15/04/23) and also on social media, Agbonlahor couldn’t help but taunt Champions League-chasing Newcastle, who suffered only their fourth defeat of the season.
“Today, Ollie Watkins was a handful,” said Agbonlahor. “Botman and Burn had a nightmare against him. They couldn’t get close to him. He was running the channels. He could have scored four goals.”
ENGLAND CALLING
Gareth Southgate was in attendance for Villa’s win over Newcastle, just like he was for their win over Nottingham Forest.
Whilst Ivan Toney is cooking in the colours of Brentford this season, this rich vein of form that Watkins is in has to be rewarded by the former Exeter man returning to the international set-up.
But he’s not the only one because Tyrone Mings has equally been out of this world and he is also worthy of earning a recall to the England set-up, as he aims to guide Villa to a European finish.
