Aaron Carter’s fiancée Melanie Martin breaks silence on autopsy that found singer drowned after taking pills and huffing

AARON Carter’s fiancée Melanie Martin has spoken out after his autopsy results were released confirming his death was accidental.

The 34-year-old singer, who rose to fame in the 1990s as a teen heartthrob, was found dead in the bathtub of his Lancaster, California home by his housekeeper on November 5, 2022.

Carter drowned in his bathtub after taking alprazolam, a generic version of Xanax, and inhaling compressed difluoroethane, a propellant used in cans of compressed air, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner.

The singer became “incapacitated while in the bathtub due to the effects” of the drugs, resulting in him slipping underneath the water and drowning, the autopsy report said.

Police said in November that prescription pills and cans of compressed air were found in his home at the time of his death.

“I am not getting the closure I need because I don’t buy it,” Martin told The U.S. Sun on Tuesday after the autopsy results were made public.

“He was found with clothing on the coroner told me, how would he have drowned with clothing on.

“I still have a lot more questions I would like answered regarding the police investigation.”

Melanie added that “while Aaron did have a dependency issue, he was so much more than his issues,” and that she hoped people will start to focus on all the good Aaron put into this world.”

She also told The U.S. Sun how difficult it has been to deal with Aaron’s death in the public eye while raising their child, Prince, and thanked friends, family, and fans for their support.

“I am having to come to terms with the fact that Prince and I, along with Aaron’s family and friends, may never have all the answers,” she said.

“I am thankful to all who have been so supportive of Prince and I throughout this, from the certain family members who were still in Aaron’s life til the end, to Aaron’s true friends, to his many devoted fans.

“While there were enablers and bad influences in Aaron’s circle, it’s also important to note that Aaron had people who loved him unconditionally.

“I hope, as this chapter of the grieving process closes, we can focus more on Aaron’s legacy and all the joy he brought to so many.

“Aaron will always be the love of my life. He was an amazing partner and a loving father.

“My main focus now is to raise Prince as Aaron would have wanted, and make sure Aaron’s legacy is never forgotten.”

‘STRANGE’ BEHAVIOR

Melanie, 35, previously told The U.S. Sun that Carter had been clean for the majority of their three-year on/off relationship until “bad people from his past” reemerged trying to relaunch his career.

The beauty influencer suspected during brief periods that he was secretly being sold drugs but says he only ever admitted to relapsing in his “huffing” addiction weeks before he died.

Melanie was staying with family just before his death and grew concerned after being sent live stream clips from Instagram of Aaron appearing under the influence.

Melanie said that Carter was acting strange before his death and that “nothing of the last few days of his life added up to a normal pattern.”

While Melanie wasn’t at the house with him, she asked the housekeeper to update her on everything Carter was doing, which she agreed to.

“On the Tuesday before his death, I called a welfare check on Aaron when he was driving the RV,” Melanie said.

Cops pulled Carter over that day and conducted field sobriety tests, TMZ reported at the time.

But they found that Carter wasn’t under the influence of any substances. Melanie said police determined “he was OK to drive.”

“Due to the media attention it caused, Aaron felt I embarrassed him, so we decided to take a break from each other for a couple of days,” Melanie said.

“I went with our son to stay at my mother’s house.”

Melanie admitted that she was “super worried that Aaron would relapse again, since he had a couple of times in recent months.”

She noted that “he signed up for outpatient rehab, and scheduled an appointment for Friday, November 4.”

Carter’s body was found the following day and it’s unclear if he attended the appointment.

“I had sent our housekeeper several text messages showing concern for his wellbeing with no response from her,” Melanie said.

“No one notified me that Aaron had left his home for Walmart that evening despite my asking of just that.”

She added: “It was unusual he would [do that] because of his anxiety. He’d usually ask someone else to go places for him.”

Melanie said that the last thing she heard about Carter was from the housekeeper’s friend, who told her that he was “eating snacks.”

RISE TO FAME

Carter rose to fame in the late 1990s as a pop singer, opening up for the Backstreet Boys in Berlin at the age of nine.

He was the younger brother of Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter.

The performance led to a record deal, and during the fall of 1997, he released his first single, Crush on You, off his self-titled debut album.

During the early 2000s, he turned to acting, where his stardom continued to ascend, this time as a teen heartthrob, making guest appearances in several Disney Channel and Nickelodeon shows.

However, after a brief appearance on reality TV and Dancing with the Stars, his music career progressed, transitioning from pop to rap.

Nonetheless, Carter struggled with substance abuse and mental health.

In 2017, Carter went on the show The Doctors and opened up about all the pills he was taking.

By then, Carter was malnourished and underweight and admitted himself to a drug rehabilitation program.

In a second appearance on The Doctors in 2019, the I’m All About You singer disclosed he had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
