According to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner, Carter drowned in his bathtub after taking alprazolam, a generic version of Xanax, and inhaling compressed difluoroethane – a propellant used in cans of compressed air.
The report, obtained by TMZ, said Carter became “incapacitated while in the bathtub due to the effects” of the drugs, resulting in him slipping underneath the water and drowning.
Before the results were revealed, police said at the time of the tragic discovery, prescription pills and cans of compressed air were found in his home.
Carter’s fiancée, Melanie Martin, had said before that she believed drugs may have been involved in his death.

In an exclusive interview with The U.S. Sun, Melanie, 35, said Carter had been clean for the majority of their three-year on/off relationship until “bad people from his past” reemerged trying to relaunch his career.
Carter rose to fame in the late 1990s as a pop singer, opening up for the Backstreet Boys in Berlin at the age of nine.
He was the younger brother of Backstreet Boys member Nick Carter.
The performance led to a record deal, and during the fall of 1997, he released his first single, Crush on You, off his self-titled debut album.
During the early 2000s, he turned to acting, where his stardom continued to ascend, this time as a teen heartthrob, making guest appearances in several Disney Channel and Nickelodeon shows.

However, after a brief appearance on reality TV and Dancing with the Stars, his music career progressed, transitioning from pop to rap.
Nonetheless, Carter struggled with substance abuse and mental health.
In 2017, Carter went on the show The Doctors and opened up about all the pills he was taking.
By then, Carter was malnourished and underweight and admitted himself to a drug rehabilitation program.
In a second appearance on The Doctors in 2019, the I’m All About You singer disclosed he had been diagnosed with schizophrenia and bipolar disorder.
AARON CARTER DEAD AT 34
Carter was found dead at his home during the early hours of November 5, 2022, by his housekeeper.
In his bathroom, investigators discovered what appeared to be feces on the floor and a tub filled with green water.
Investigators also revealed that Carter was found surrounded by cans of compressed air and prescription pill bottles.
Police believe that Carter’s body was in the tub for a long time due to the smell of decomposition and the unnatural color that the water had turned, TMZ reported at the time.
Carter leaves behind his fiancée, Melanie, and their son, Prince.
Just hours after his death, Martin was pictured outside of Carter’s home and sobbed as friends consoled her.

In one picture, she can be seen burying her head in her hands as she broke down in tears.
