18-year-old wonderkid spotted in Newcastle training ahead of Man City clash

As Newcastle United aim to return to winning ways after their Carabao Cup final defeat against Manchester City, Alex Murphy has been spotted in first-team training.

The 18-year-old, who is a natural left-back is regarded as one of the most talented players out of Ireland’s up-and-coming golden generation, alongside the likes of Evan Ferguson and Sam Curtis.

Now, as Newcastle prepare to travel to the Etihad Stadium to face Manchester City, Alex Murphy has been seen training in and amongst the senior team.

The teenager, much like the ‘huge talent’ Elliot Anderson is touted to be one of the many starlets that could become key players for Eddie Howe’s men in the near future.

A picture of Alex Murphy has surfaced on Getty Images in Newcastle training ahead of their contest against Manchester City where he seems to be trying to win the ball off Anthony Gordon, who Rafael Benitez recently compared to Real Madrid’s Vinicius Jr.

It is certain that the wonderkid does not get a start for his boyhood club on Saturday but it still remains exciting that he seems to be in the first-team’s future plans.

Alex Murphy could prove to be a future solution at left-back

While Dan Burn was picked by Alan Shearer as the left-back in his Premier League Team of the Season, there remain limitations in his game going forward as he is a centre-half by trade.

And against Manchester City, Burn is expected to start for Newcastle but when the club try to play a more expansive style of play, Alex Murphy may be tailor-made to do so, which is why him being involved in training sessions is an exciting development.

Considering the club have struggled to give young players a pathway to the first-team and turn them into household names, the Irishman could well start a trend.
