THE STEPMOTHER of Whitney Purvis’ son Weston has slammed drug rumors after his sudden death at just 16 years old.
Speaking with The U.S. Sun, 16 & Pregnant star Weston’s stepmom, Amy Gosa, explained that the teen had several health issues, but his death earlier this week was a complete shock.
She said they have set up a spotfund fundraiser with a $12,000 goal to help pay for the unexpected costs of her stepson’s funeral.
“He had several health issues, so we’re thinking it was an underlying issue we didn’t know about,” Amy told The U.S. Sun, adding “It’s very hurtful seeing all the comments saying he died from fentanyl.”
She said she hopes the eventual results of the autopsy clear his name as vicious rumors spread around social media.
She said her stepson’s death was “so sudden and out of nowhere.”
“He was fine the night before. At first, we thought his blood sugar was low, but it wasn’t,” she explained.
According to Amy, Weston, who first appeared on 16 & Pregnant as an infant in 2009, had several health issues beyond type 1 diabetes, including Addison’s disease and Alpha-1 Antitrypsin Deficiency.
Weston has a younger brother, River, and a half-brother, who is Amy’s son.
All three boys lived together with Amy and Weston’s dad, Weston Gosa Sr.
“We’re all very upset. Our kids are devastated. He’s got two brothers and they’re just broken,” Amy said.
And despite some rocky times with Weston’s mom, Whitney, everyone in the family is leaning on each other in the crisis.
“We’re on good terms now. She’s devastated as well. She’s not doing good at all right now,” she explained.
The Medical Examiner’s office told The U.S. Sun as of Tuesday morning, Weston’s autopsy had yet to be completed, and that the full results, including toxicology, would likely take several weeks.
SUDDEN TRAGEDY
As The U.S. Sun previously reported, Weston tragically passed away on Monday, leaving his heartbroken mother to share the devastating news with an emotional tribute on social media.
Whitney, 33, who appeared on 16 & Pregnant in the first season, announced the death of her son on Facebook.
“This is so hard to write. My beautiful son, Weston has passed away.”
“Life is so cruel and unfair. I just dont understand.
“Oh my baby is gone and I don’t know what to do with myself.”
Amy later shared additional details about the teenager’s untimely death.
She said that Weston was found unresponsive at 7 a.m., and despite her efforts, she was unable to wake him.
“He was not breathing, we attempted CPR and called an ambulance.
“The paramedics attempted it as well and took him to the hospital in Gordon County [Georgia] where he was pronounced dead.”
