THE wife of singer Shane MacGowen has sent “love and prayers for everyone who is struggling right now” as she issued a new health update.
In a post on social media, Victoria Mary Clarke thanked everyone for their kind messages and support while the Fairytale of New York icon battles a dangerous brain condition in hospital.

Sharing an image of Shane using a breathing apparatus from his hospital bed, his loving wife wrote: “I just wanted to say a massive thanks to everyone who has been messaging me and @ShaneMacGowan and thank you @spiderstacy and Terry Woods for coming to visit him.
“Love and prayers for everyone who is struggling right now. Hang in there!”
The 65-year-old singer has been receiving treatment for months for viral encephalitis – a serious condition which leads to brain swelling.
Shane has been hospitalised a number of times since the diagnosis and was thought to have been admitted again in June, but Victoria has not revealed the exact reasons why.
The Pogues frontman has a list of star-studded visitors, including bandmates Spider Stacy and Terry Woods, who often call in on the music legend.
Previously, Victoria has opened up about “facing terrifying fears of loss” as she shared a sweet snap of the two sharing a poignant kiss.
In a heartfelt message to their fans earlier this week, Victoria said: “Love is the most beautiful and powerful thing that we can experience as humans but love can also feel painful especially if you are afraid of losing a person or anything else that you love.

“The really really big challenge that we all face is to go beyond what our minds think are the limits of love and what love really is.

“A lot of the time that thing we call love can more accurately be described as attachment or desire or need or longing or closeness or connection.
“And all of these are totally valuable and human and we need to acknowledge and appreciate and accept every part of our experience.”
Victoria, 57, said that sometimes when you “love very deeply” you will “find yourself facing terrifying fears of loss” that can feel “so big and devastating you don’t know how to survive them”.
She continued: “You can’t imagine life without this person that you love.
‘CHOOSE TO STAY PRESENT’
“It’s in these moments when you are staring into the abyss that you have an opportunity to expand your consciousness beyond the limitations of your mind.
“You have an opportunity to discover more of who you really are and more of who your soul really is and more of your connection with this person who you love.”
But despite the fear and terror Victoria opened up about, she told how we can “choose to stay present as everything unfolds” and be surprised that there are more moments of “beauty and grace and even joy than we ever imagined”.
She added: “Stay tuned in to love no matter what is happening in your world and keep inviting all of your angels and guides to support you and know that love is always the best choice!”
Tipperary rocker Shane has been confined to a wheelchair since shattering his pelvis in a horror fall several years ago.
MacGowan fell and broke his pelvis in 2016 and later fell and broke his knee and then ended up tearing ligaments in his left knee, injuries from which he has never fully recovered.
