TONY Blackburn is without doubt a legend of the radio airwaves having had a career spanning some 56 years.
Fans of the radio DJ were left disappointed after finding out that the popular host will not be on his scheduled shows this weekend.

Who is Tony Blackburn?
Tony Blackburn was born on January 29, 1943.
He began living in Guilford, Surrey with his parents Kenneth and Pauline.
They both worked worked in the health service, one being a GP, the other a nurse.
As a child he was a keen cricketer and gained entry to school in Somerset on a sports scholarship.
However, he left school without any qualifications and did not sit a single exam.
Blackburn pursued a career as a singer before rising to fame as a DJ on pirate radio stations during the 1960s.
Why is Tony Blackburn not on Radio 2 this morning?
Taking to social media last night, Blackburn announced that he would not be able to appear on his schedule shows this weekend.
He announced to his Twitter followers “Sorry to say I won’t be doing my shows over the weekend as I have a very annoying virus which is taking its time to go away.”
His usual shows are to bee replaced with re-runs of his “Happy Birthday show” and a special Golden Hour episode.
Well-wishers immediately commented on the DJ’s post hoping him a speedy recovery from his illness.

“Get well soon Tony, you are a special part of our lives.”
Another commented “Get well soon my friend. And take your time to heal.”
What shows has Tony Blackburn presented?
After starting his radio career on pirate radio shows such as Radio Caroline and Radio London before joining the BBC in 1967.
He then went on to present Top of the Pops for a decade as the show opted to have popular radio presenters hosting.
In 2002, Tony Blackburn won the hearts of a nation as he became the winner of ITV’s I’m a Celebrity, Get Me Out of Here.
His time in the Australian jungle struck a chord with viewers and his popularity soared.
Is Tony Blackburn married?
Tony Blackburn married actress Tessa Wyatt in 1972.
She was known for starring in such shows as Z-Cars, Dixon of Dock Green and The Goodies.
They had a son named Simon, before getting divorced in 1977.
He married for a second time in 1992 to theatrical agent Debbie Thompson.
Blackburn was to have a second child with her, Victoria, who was born in 1997.
The pair are still happily married to this day.
