Thanks, I Hate It
MTV has opted not to film a ‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter’ reunion this year. Amber Portwood’s deciscion not to travel for the event might be the reason why.
Season two of Teen Mom: The Next Chapter was more interesting and dramatic than the revamped show’s inaugural season. The return of Jenelle Evans and Amber Portwood’s ongoing relationship and family drama has kept fans coming back. Those viewers won’t get a chance to wrap up the series like they normally do, though. This year, the Teen Mom: The Next Chapter reunion has been canceled. MTV has not explained why the season won’t wrap with a traditional reunion. Still, rumor has it that Amber Portwood’s family issues are to blame.
‘Teen Mom: The Next Chapter’ will not wrap up with a reunion special
On Aug. 25, TeenMomFanz, an Instagram account dedicated to the controversial franchise, reported that for the first time, there would not be a reunion special to wrap up the season. According to the outlet, no reason for the last-minute decision was given. Still, fans have plenty of theories about why the reunion was canceled just weeks before filming was set to begin.
Some fans took to the comments to theorize that the show would be canceled entirely. While a canceled reunion has signaled the end of Bravo shows in the past, there is no precedent for MTV. Other fans suggested that the ongoing legal drama of several cast members, including Ashley Jones and Janelle Evans, might have prompted the decision. Other outlets have suggested Amber Portwood’s ongoing troubles with Gary Shirley and Gary Wayt, might have led to the cancellation.
Is Amber Portwood’s ongoing issues with Gary Shirley to blame for the canceled reunion?
While MTV has not revealed exactly why the reunion has been canceled, rumors are swirling that Amber Portwood, fresh off of heartbreak and still dealing with family troubles, is the reason the reunion won’t be happening. Earlier this week, Teen Mom Fanz reported that Amber refused to travel to New York to film this year’s reunion special. She also apparently refused to be on the same stage with Gary Shirley or communicate with him on camera.
While Shirley and Portwood have had a decent co-parenting relationship over the years, things have taken a turn for the worse in recent months. Portwood is reportedly deeply troubled by her daughter’s desire to be adopted by her stepmother, Kristina Shirley. Shirley, in recent weeks, has taken jabs at Portwood on social media. In one social media comment, he said that the mother of his eldest daughter had not seen the teen in months. Shirley seems especially bitter since Portwood is trying to prevent Leah Shirley from being adopted. Several cast members have weighed in on the adoption situation and Portwood’s lackluster dedication to parenting.
While there is bad blood between Portwood and Shirley at the moment, it’s hard to say unequivocally if that’s why the reunion was canceled. MTV has yet to reveal if Teen Mom: The Next Chapter will return for another season. The current season aired its finale on Sept. 12.
