Who is James Morrison?

James Morrison, born August 13, 1984, is an English singer, songwriter, and guitarist.

Born in the town of Rugby, Warwickshire, Morrison was surrounded by the influence of his parents’ record collection; his mother was a fan of soul and his father enjoyed folk and country.

Since then, the star has sold millions of records ever since he first emerged in 2006, with his triple-platinum debut album Undiscovered. 

He then went on to have three more Top 10 albums, including two No1s and won the Brit Award for Best British Male in 2007.

His 2019 album You’re Stronger Than You Know – his first album in four years – was released on March 8.

Morrison has also worked as a songwriter for Kelly Clarkson and Demi Lovato.

As a result of his singing success, as of January 2024, the singer has over 130,000 fans and followers on the social media platform Instagram.

Away from the spotlight, Morrison was married to his wife Gill Catchpole.

Who was James Morrison’s wife Gill Catchpole?

James Morrison was married to wife Gill Catchpole.

Speaking on the White Wine Question Time podcast, Morrison previously revealed the way in which he met his wife.

James met Gill when she moved in as a lodger at his mum’s house, with her then-boyfriend.

The singer explained: “It wasn’t the easiest start, but I just still see it as a really romantic thing. I’m not very romantic.

“I’m not like: ‘I love romance!’ But I do find certain things romantic and the fact that we met each other the way we did. It’s like a little fairy tale or something!” 

James and Gill’s romance blossomed around three months after the boyfriend had left, but there was another twist in the tale.

James explained: “He got me back. 

“My mum rang me one day. And she said: ‘I’m out on a date. I wonder if you can pick me up?

‘’I said: ‘Where are you?’ And she said: ‘I’m at John’s house.’ And I was like: ‘John’s house? Who’s John?

‘’She said: ’You know, Gill’s John.

“Okay, so I have to go and pick my mum up from my girlfriend’s ex’s house, and it was the most awkward thing! 

‘’But I didn’t like the fact that she said that. So I was like: ‘No it’s not a date. They’re just hanging out.’ Yeah, it was awkward!”

The singer also explained that the early connection with his wife came from music – because her dad was also a musician.

He said: “We just had a connection straight away really. But I had to wait two years to find out if what I thought I felt was real.

“Because I wasn’t going out with her for the first year or so she lived there. She was with her boyfriend, so I was getting to know her.

“And I didn’t want to tell her that I fell in love with her the first moment I set eyes on her because I didn’t know, I never fell in love before.

“So I didn’t really know if it was that. So it was like a massive moment for me to even tell her that I liked her.”

Do James Morrison and Gill Catchpole have any children?

During their time together, Morrison and Gill welcomed two children.

The couple’s first daughter Elsie was born in 2008.

A decade later, in 2018, Gill and James welcomed their second daughter, Ada Rose.

Ada was born at 27 weeks and weighed just 1lb 11oz, after Gill started having birth contractions at just 24 weeks.
