Who was Andrew Tate’s dad?

American international master of chess Emory Andrew Tate Jr. was born on December 27, 1958, in Chicago, Illinois, US.

He was notably referred to as “absolutely a trailblazer for African-American chess” by the first black chess grandmaster Maurice Ashley and learned to play the game as a child.

Emory went onto earn a reputation as a creative and dangerous tactician on the US chess circuit.

He won around 80 tournament games against Grandmasters.

He had three children, which includes Andrew, and his attorney daughter Janine.

Emory had another son, Tristan.

When did Andrew Tate’s dad die?

Emory passed away when he was just 56-years-old.

He died on October 17, 2015, after collapsing suddenly during a tournament in Milpitas, California.

His exact cause of death was never revealed.

What has Andrew Tate said about his dad?

Andrew has previously talked about his father on his podcast, and once said of his dad: “My father was a massive influence on my life. I think I had the best father on the planet.

“I think he was the smartest man who’s ever walked the earth bar none. Smarter than me by 100 times.

“I wish he was alive cos having him on a podcast break the internet Dude was a genius. I have so many stories to prove his genius but that’s a tangent.”

Andrew also revealed his dad taught himself how to play chess, and had never taken lessons to improve his art.

He said: “I never saw him study chess books, ever. He also hated chess computers and never used them. He just sat down and played”. 

Andrew has also tweeted about his late father, and once wrote: “When I was a toddler my dad bumped me at random.”

Pushed me over. Nonstop. Eventually, I learned to packpeddle extremely proficiently.

“So he pushed harder. When I was older he did it to Tristan too. I remember watching. ‘Why push us dad?’ ‘So you learn to get up.'”
