The star was friends with murdered schoolboy Damilola Taylor as a child.
She told his story, and confronted her own feelings about his tragic death, in a moving Channel 4 documentary titled Damilola: The Boy Next Door.
The truth is I’d never really dealt with his death and what it meant until we started making this documentary.

Yinka started her rise to fame as the host of the Capital Xtra Breakfast Show.
Her other presenting credits include The MOBOs, 4Music, and Wireless Festival.
The beauty is also known for her modelling career and has worked for big brands like Revlon, Converse, and L’Oreal.
Is Yinka Bokinni pregnant?
Yinka announced her pregnancy at the Brit Awards on March 2, 2024.
The expectant mother showed off her blossoming bump in a green satin dress while hosting the award ceremony’s red carpet.
She later took to Instagram to share a series of polaroid pictures that showed her baring her baby bump as she prepared for the Brits.
She captioned the pictures: “BABY’S 1st BRITS.”
Is Yinka Bokinni in a relationship?
Yinka likes to keep her personal life out of the spotlight and doesn’t post anything about her love life on social media.
Though she hasn’t confirmed that she is in a relationship, it appears that the star does have a partner as Loose Women star Charlene White responded to her pregnancy announcement on Instagram by writing: “Yay! Congratulations you two!”
What is Yinka Bokinni known for?
Yinka is best known for her award-winning documentary about childhood friend Damilola Taylor.
Damilola was just ten years old when he was ambushed and stabbed in the leg with a broken bottle on November 27, 2000, while making his way home from an after school club at his local library.
He collapsed on an outdoor stairwell on the estate and bled to death.
Yinka knew the young school boy and made the 2020 film as a tribute to him to show “how loved” he was.
While the experience was cathartic it was also incredibly painful, with Yinka telling Stylist magazine at the time the documentary aired: “It felt like it was time to reflect.
“The truth is I’d never really dealt with his death and what it meant until we started making this documentary.
“It was emotionally draining, but I felt like I wanted to do Damilola the service of telling his story correctly.
“Twenty years is a long time but it doesn’t take away the sting or the sense of grief. So it feels very fresh, especially because it’s the first time I’m speaking about it.
“All in all, it was a baptism of fire into the world of documentary filmmaking.”
Yinka has gone on to become a leading UK presenter and has fronted other top Channel 4 documentaries.
In 2023 she hosted Naked Education alongside Anna Richardson.
The show was aimed at “body-positive, educational series aiming to normalise all body types, champion people’s differences and break down stereotypes”.
Yinka then filmed another Channel 4 documentary called How To Hire a Hitman.
The powerful two-part series saw her travel to America to investigate how to employ an assassin.

Yinka was confirmed for the Celebrity Bake Off line-up in February 2024.
Revealing the big news on Instagram, the star said: “She knows how to cook rice but can she bake a cake???
“Well we’ll find out soon cos you can catch me on CELEBRITY BAKE-OFF when it returns this spring.”
Yinka will be joined on the show by fellow celebrities like Danny Dyer and Dermot O’Leary.
